If we were to try to list all the different article writing styles that exist or will exist, we’d probably end up with an encyclopedia, because writing styles are like fingerprints. No two are completely alike.

But there are some basic development structures that are, more often than not, used by the vast majority of article composers.

After all, there are very few reasons why you’d want to write an article in the first place, and so every article written will most likely have a similar purpose based on these few motives.

For example, you have the desire to either sell a product, build content for your website, establish yourself as an expert in your field, any combination of these, or all of the above.

That’s about it, unless it’s merely your job.

So there’s usually some fundamental similarities among articles that can be drawn upon when you’re setting out to write one yourself.

Take a look . . .

1. Product Introduction and Advertisement

When writing an article, it’s not customarily wise to blatantly advertise your product directly. Readers are looking for information that will help them understand how to do something, or for recommendations about what to use.

If they wanted to be advertised to, they’re simply go to the Classifieds and pick out the best product for the money.

So when you’re setting out to write an article about a product, it’s best to build your article loosely around the product without actually naming it or describing it.

That’s what your sales page is for, right?

Thus when you want to write an article introducing a product, set out to create a scenario describing a situation where a product like you’re marketing could be used.

Start with the problem that needs solving and conclude with some possible solutions. What you’re doing is building an argument and leading the reader to an obvious conclusion. Finish it off with your bio box that leads them to your sales page.

2. Building Content

The key to building good, solid content for your website is somewhat different than writing an article to introduce your product. With your product introduction, your article is, obviously, product driven.

But when you want to build content, your motivation would be more niche driven, or keyword specific.

The objective is to fill your website with keyword rich article content to entice the Search Engines to spider your site with as much enthusiasm as possible. The more information you can supply on a specific topic, the more your site will be viewed as important and useful to general web surfer.

The Search Engines want people to use them, so when they find such a website, they’re more than happy to list it.

So to accomplish this, your article would start out with a single keyword or key phrase that’s specific to your website to establish the purpose behind it.

By sticking to this specific topic, you’ll be assuring yourself of a well written article that fits right in with your website’s theme.

3. Establishing Yourself as an Expert

Of all the reasons for writing articles, this one should be viewed as a long range approach. The concept behind it is to gradually produce articles based on one particular field in order for your readers to learn to associate your name with that one field.

The intended outcome is to establish yourself as a teacher, and one who has good recommendations to give. This, in turn, will help you develop a following of people who would actually go out of their way to find articles you’ve written.

This is a great way to build a mailing list too.

Once you’ve written several articles about a topic, you can then add a link in your bio box to a free report or ebook. When the readers click on the link, they’re taken to a page that requires them to sign up to get the free publication.

So the more expertise you show in your articles, the more sign ups you’ll get.

4. Combinations

Of course you can combine any of these methods and still come off with some great articles. However, you’d want to want to build on one method and incorporate the others in with less enthusiasm.

For example, you’d be hard pressed to prove yourself an expert and build a following if your articles were always obvious product endorsements. And your content building efforts would suffer if every article was more about your expertise than the niche topic its supposed to be about.

So though its possible, you’re best bet would be to choose one method, or one purpose and stick with it for each article.

Whichever method you choose, its vital that you provide good quality work. Articles are a lot like Classifieds in one important way. A good one can entice almost assured positive response, and a bad one . . .

Well you know the answer to that.

The most valuable tool of the freelance writer or author is undoubtedly a notebook. Inspiration can strike at any moment, and usually does so at the most unexpected time. It is wise to always have a notebook and pen with you, especially beside your bed, to capture those elusive morning inspirations and ideas, before they evaporate with the coming of the day. The subconscious mind misses nothing and is your best ally.

An invaluable tip for writers is this — during that dreamy state between awake and asleep, before you fall asleep, simply ask your unconscious mind to help. Ask it to come up with some relevant ideas on the project you are working on. Go over it in your mind several times, then, very often, on awakening, new ideas course through your mind, courtesy of your subconscious. Song-writers, including Sir Paul McCartney, have used this technique to great effect when trying to think of new lyrics and melodies.

If you find it easier to ‘speak’ your ideas and inspirations, then perhaps it is worth investing in a small portable dictaphone type recording machine, and having this with you at all times. They repay the cost many times over by keeping all your dredged up ideas and inspirations safe for you to later transcribe.

A small notebook and pen is easily managed by most people, slipping easily into handbag or pocket. A good rule of thumb is to write down all ideas, no matter how outlandish or unrealistic they may appear at the time. Plenty of time to later copy them into a word document, and at the same time, re-evaluate their worth.

It is important to get into the habit of keeping it with you at all times, add it to the list of items we always take with us, such as keys, and mobile phone. In this way, when that million dollar idea strikes, you will be ready and will not let it slip away with the morning sun.

Writing is our way of expressing our thoughts and ideas. It is a skill. It is a need.

In today’s modern times, writing grows with time. At the onset of website development, writing expanded and created different forms and styles. Standard writing gave birth to web writing. Compared to the former, the latter is more demanding. This is because visitors of a homepage or a site lack the diligence of the conventional readers.

If you want to your content to be a sure hit, you have to have these web writing essentials:

1. Readability. Patience – that’s what most of the visitors do not have. Thus, you have to immediately give them the information they wanted. Be sure that your font size and color will contribute to its readability.

Another, express what you want to say in brief and full sentences. Bear in mind that a word can be a sentence. You need not go verbose for the readers won’t like it.

2. Scanability. Scanning is another great probability because online readers tend to scan. To make it easier for them, use bullets, numbering and letters to produce an outlined look. Use frequent paragraph breaks to make the eyes rest at every break. Subtopics can also be had for summarization of ideas.

3. Relevance. Your content must be relevant to your site’s purpose. Otherwise it should not be placed there. To know whether it is relevant, ask yourself if it is related to the topic or site. Is it important to your cause? If it is then, never forget to include it.

4. Error-free. Mechanical and factual errors can be disastrous. They can spoil the visitor’s reading experience or worse, ruin the site’s credibility. Moreover, you have to read, proofread, edit and edit some more.

5. Harmony with the web design. The content and the web design must be in harmony with each other. The responsibility lies on both the designer and the writer. They must work closely together to achieve this end.

6. Consistency. The tone, terms and style must be regular throughout the pages. Inconsistencies baffle and upset the readers.

7. Personality. Every home page must be distinct from all other. It must exude personality which gives them the chance of knowing you or your company.

Content is the king of the website. Be sure that the king will appear regal and pleased.

It seems like we never stop finding new ways for the internet to get us profit.
One of the most recent ways people are using the internet for income, is freelancing.
Freelancing is where a company or individual hires someone with the skill(s) they
need to do a project for them. After the project the hirer pays the hired, and that’s
the end of the freelancer’s (the hired) work for that hirer. One example of a freelance
writing site is www.WriterLance.com .

The web has made freelancing mainly painless. Sites have been and are
emerging all where anyone with the right skills can get freelance work.
But the hardest workers are the freelance writers, because it takes a lot more to write,
than to design a web page look. There are tutorials for things like web design, but you
can’t tell someone how to write. That takes imagination, skill, and diligence,
to be a writer.

But you may be wondering what exactly how online writing helps you?
Well look at it this way, online, you have way more options than you do
when your limited to real-life encounters. Your likely to find 20 projects in the
first 5 minutes of writing.

But maybe your also wondering why not just try to get hired by a company?
When you work for a company, you can’t take breaks at your leisure, which is why so
many college students use freelancing. If you need a brake from it, you can take one!

The only trouble with freelancing online, is that it’s hard to start up, when you
have no references. So where do you start? Try joining reputable forums, and making
intelligent, decent length posts. Maybe even post some tutorials on the forum site.
Then when you can join one of these freelance sites, you can show that you’ve done
free writing already; and if you’ve done a good job at it, you’re likely to have a good
chance with any hirer you show the work to.

But you can’t take my word for it, you have to find a freelance site like www.WriterLance.com, join up, and give it a try for yourself. Try typing “freelance writing” or something similar into a search engine, and see what sites you can find.

Author: Ellen Essene

We all know how to write, right? So why is it so hard? Why do we freeze up at the thought of writing our thoughts down on paper? I have a suspicion it started when we were all in grade school and we were judged by our teacher, that bastion of authority who had the power to reward our “What I Did On My Summer Vacation” essay with a radiant smile or the reverse…the dastardly scowl. The scowl was sure to set our fellow students to snickering and feeling superior to us, at least until it was their turn to stand up and read what they had written themselves. Then it became their turn to be afraid.

A lot of us have never recovered from the assaults on our creative writing yet many of us have harbored the desire to write, really write for years. But we freeze up because we’re afraid of exposing our tender, creative selves again. Here is one way you can take the first tentative step towards undoing the fear of writing.

For years I was afraid to write openly and seriously. I was so afraid that I believed that even if I hid my stories I could never hide them well enough. Surely somebody would stumble upon them and I would come home one day to find them lying out in the open – exposed.

The writing that felt safe to me was letter writing and that’s what I did as an outlet. I wrote letters to practically every one I knew, hundreds and hundreds of letters over the years. But the odd thing was, I rarely if ever mailed the letters out and I didn’t know why nor did it bother me in the least that I didn’t. Years later, in college and newly married my husband started noticing this odd little trait of mine. It made no sense to him that I would write so many letters and not mail them.

Unbeknownst to me, he started collecting them in a folder and months later presented the folder to me with these words, “If you don’t start mailing these letters out to the people they’re meant for -I will!” Startled by his ultimatum I exclaimed, “But I’m not writing all these letters to other people, I’m writing them to myself!” In that moment I realized I’d hidden my passion to be a real writer so deeply that I was only allowing it to surface in the form of letters. Even so, at least I was writing!

So if you want to start writing but you’re afraid, try starting out doing what I did. Sit down and compose letters about people and things and places, factual or purely from your imagination.. Write as though you’re decribing it all in a letter to your closest friend or a relative. It’s not scary in the least and it’ll ease you into writing regularly. Save each letter and file it away in a folder. A wonderful side effect of starting out writing this way is it gives you the best practice in developing your “authentic voice” – something all writers strive for.

Do this long enough and before long you may find you’ve written enough letters to make a novel of your own!

But here is what’s so amazing. Eventually I was to learn that there is an entire style of story/novel writing called epistolary. This form was common in the 18th century and is still being used by contemporary writers of today.

And Excellant epistolary novel is “The Ginger Tree” by Oswald Wynd

Freelancing is a simple concept.
If you have a talent, but you can’t (or don’t) want to work long-term, freelancing is the alternative. You can exchange your valuable services for money, without having to stay with long-term with any company. Say, for example, you’re a writer. You want to write articles, but not do as part of a company. So you decide to become a freelance writer. But how does it work? Where do you start? That’s what you’ll learn in this article.

Freelancing is simply this; working for a temporary employer to do the project(s) they hire you for. That’s all there is to it. You don’t stay with your employer after you’re done, which is why so many college students freelance. You can finish up however many projects your doing, then take a brake if you want (something you can’t do when you’re with a company).

Freelancing was revolutionized by the Web. Just by typing “Freelance” into a search engine, you can find lists of sites that offer you the ability to sell your work, one such site is www.WriterLance.com, or customize your talents for people who need some specific kind of creation (like a corporate identity, or web page, or article).

Nifty idea, but how exactly does it work?
The nice thing about online freelancing is that you don’t have to be Computer-savvy, to work these websites. Once you find a freelance site (let’s say for example, www.writerlance.com), your first step is to register there. Some sites require you to subscribe (which usually means cough up money) to get work, but on most, you can register for free. Once you do that, your next step is to create your payment information. When you complete a project as they’re called, the person hiring you, has to send you the money. There are a couple ways to do this. You can register on sites like www.PayPal.com. When you sign up on a site like this, you can give out your e-mail address, as well as your street address, and when someone pays

Author: Jane Harper

It doesn’t matter if you have a professional looking website, with a superb product or service. Nor does it matter if your sales copy is the best there is. Without the right wording in your headline, you will not make many sales. Do you know how to create the perfect headline?

A very good friend of mine, Mavis, made the fatal mistake of ignoring the importance of killer headlines. This mistake nearly lost her her business. She had a great niche product, hand-crafted jewellery. She was able to sell loads of beautiful items through her stall at a local market, but she wanted to start selling her wares to a wider market and saw the internet as the perfect medium.

With only basic computer skills, she managed to put a pretty impressive website together. Her sales copy was good, she put in the essential call to action, everything was just perfect, or so she thought.

So what did Mavis do wrong?

Simply, it was the headline. It just didn’t work. It didn’t have the power to grab the attention of the potential customer. The headline does 90% of the work when it comes to sales copy. Unless you can catch the interest of a customer, you have no customers. Not a plan if you are trying to make a living through the internet.

Did Mavis know how important the headlines where?

She did plenty of research before she set up her website. She read everything that she could get her hands on. Covering all the topics from web hosting to marketing, sales copy to advertising. But nothing on the importance of headline wording.

Everything she read she put into practice. Considering she knew very little before she started, she did an amazing job. Thinking that she had covered it all and with everything in place, she launched her site and generated lots of targeted traffic to it. She only made 2 sales in 4 months. Not looking good for Mavis is it.

She rang me up one day and asked me what was she doing wrong. She told me that she was at her wits end and didn’t know what to do. She said that the website was getting lots of visitors, but they weren’t staying there long enough to become customers. I went straight to view her website and as soon as the page loaded I could clearly see what the problem was. You guessed it, the headline. The powerful and hypnotic wording was just not there in her headline. That one, singular oversight was costing her dearly. The website was beautifully designed and easy to navigate. The sales copy was very professional, she used all the right calls to action and offered an excellent refund policy. But the fact is, no-one ever saw any of this because they never got past the headline.

I told her to come around to see me and I would show her how she could turn things around. Mavis and I sat at the computer and I showed her the good, the bad and the ugly of headlines on websites. Within a few minutes, she could see where she was going wrong. She just hadn’t been using the right words to get the effect that is needed. You have to GRAB the attention of browsing customers, by using powerful, emotional and hypnotic words. So I made us another cup of coffee before we sat down and I showed Mavis how simple it is to make sizzling headlines.

You need to start by creating a ‘benefit statement’. This is what will make your reader want to know about what you are selling. Then you sandwich the benefit statement with action words and phrases. These are the true ingredients of attention-grabbing headline writing.

Okay, so what is a benefit statement?

This is simply the end ‘result’ of what your customer will experience when purchasing or using your product.

In mavis’s case we came up with the benefit statement of “own unique hand-crafted jewellery.’ Then we decided to sandwich this with ‘the perfect way to’ and ‘delivered straight to your door.’ The result:- “The Perfect Way To Own Unique Hand-Crafted Jewellery, Delivered Straight To Your Door.” We played around with a few more, but decided to give this one a go.

What happened to Mavis’s business?

Mavis went home and immediately set about changing her home page. She removed the old headline and replaced it with the new one. Within 24 hours of Mavis uploading her updated website, 5 orders where placed. By the end of the month she had made sales of $1564. She hadn’t made any other changes to her website, just the headline and it completely turned her business around. She did have the advantage of already having targeted traffic visiting her site. Before the change of headlines, that traffic just clicked away from her page, but with the new headline, they became drawn in, taking time to have a look at the exquisite goods that Mavis had to offer. Some people staying long enough to make a purchase. Goal accomplished.

In conclusion, the headline is THE most important thing to take into consideration when writing your sales copy. Getting it wrong can have devastating results. Getting it right can have positively profound affects.

Never, ever underestimate the power of headlines. Unless you want your business to suffer dismally low sales and never really make it off the ground.

If you are having problems writing your winning headlines, you could always pay someone else to write them for you. Or you can get a software program that will do it for you. The first option could be a bit expensive, but there are some fairly cheap software programs that you will be able to use every time you need new headlines, so I would recommend this.

Research for news or feature stories is very different to academic study. Time limits or ‘deadlines’ are usually more critical and the depth of information required is much less. In journalism, research will be for background information and for the purposes of finding people you can interview for expert comment or analysis. These are called ‘sources’. In news journalism, a single source is often used in an article but feature writers use several sources.

Most organisations have designated employees who deal with media enquiries. They are usually called a press officer and work in the press office. But they may be a marketing person or even staff at a public relations company. The press office will supply you with news releases, brochures and leaflets, known as ‘hand-out’ material. Press officers are usually helpful, all too aware that today’s journalism student or writing enthusiast may be tomorrow’s Fleet Street staffer. They will answer your questions and may assist you to arrange an interview with a source which, in television, is called unflatteringly a ‘talking head’. Adding your contact details to a press officer’s mailing list can result in invitations to potentially valuable sources of stories like product launches and news conferences. Potential interviewees can be found using publications including:

• The Directory of British Associations, available in most reference libraries.
• The Hollis Press and Public Relations Annual
• The Writers and Artists Yearbook
• The Guardian Media Guide which lists a range of media contacts and the names, telephone numbers and websites for local councils, government departments, hospitals, police services, courts, prisons, museums, theatres and embassies.

A good reference library will have a variety of specialist directories as well CD-ROMS containing back issues of newspapers and journals. It is worthwhile joining as more than one library. London has a number of these, for instance Westminster Reference Library, the British Library and the Royal Institute for International Affairs, which researchers can use by prior appointment.

The internet is now an easy and standard source for research. There are a number of major search engines on the net and a few like Ask Jeeves at askjeeves.co.uk and Answers.com are particularly user-friendly because you can enter a question. All the major newspapers have searchable archives, for example guardianunlimited.co.uk. Though the internet is a great resource, for accuracy, be careful to use authoritative sites and double check facts when not doing this. For example, though the online encyclopaedic resource wikipaedia.org is a boon, remember that it is written by volunteers who are not necessarily experts (anybody who wants to contribute can) and therefore information on it needs to be cross-referenced with other sources.

It is not uncommon for people who are new to journalism to spend an inordinate amount of effort on research and then leave little time for the writing of an article. The important consideration in the first stage of constructing your piece is the topicality of the story, its relevance to a target audience and interesting angle. This will provide the necessary focus for your research, saving precious time and labour. The UK’s citizen journalism website the-latest.com has a useful section on resources for would-be journalists.

Books and articles are about sharing our perception, learning, reasoning and what we live through. They formulate emotional or moral sensitivity and info for individuals who do not have these varieties of communication skills.

When you imagine, you can listen to your voice. When you listen to your voice, you can compose. Writing is an elementary act of expanding your mind to your fingers.

Try this work out:

1. Start with a blank page in your word processing platform.
2. Allow your fingers to linger just over the keys of your keyboard and shut your eyes.
3. At this present moment open you mind and allow it to fill up with silence.
4. With that silence, allow your thoughts to concentrate on what you know you can do well or what is interesting to you.
5. When an idea comes up, type it. You can write until the well goes dry on subjects like cooking, cell phones, flowers and fly fishing.
6. Now you can open your eyes and amazingly, here is a list of topics for potential articles!

Your specific knowledge and experience can not have a value added to it, it is yours. The idea is to collect from the well of that knowledge and use it to make an article or ebook.

Internet businesses are starving for info about how to have their websites turn into money-making machines. When an enterpriser starts a business, they lack the experience that follows from a lot of years laboring in the trenches.

If your ebook can help move the reader ahead in time by supplying them with your priceless business knowledge, you have got a topic for a good and prosperous ebook.

One of the most potent marketing tools obtainable in the world now are ebooks. They can broadcast out as attachments in emails, purposed for free or for a price on your site, or mailed on discs. They can be marketed by your affiliates by way of links on their sites.

Offer your ebook through an autoresponder, allowing to catch email addresses and building a list of possible customers. Also you can utilize your ebook to obtain an opt-in email list, through sending emails only to people who request it, you distinguish your messages from spam and step-up the respect of your list.

The ebook arrangement is one of the most wide-ranging on the Internet. Use it to make booklets, newssheets and courses extending advice and info about your goods or services, training tools and all for a profit.

If you use articles right and with business understanding it will lead prime traffic to your site and yield potential sales. Ebooks can teach your visitors about your products or services, and educate them about new techniques or functions.

Use the ebooks to reward visitors for completing a customer survey, which will give you priceless perceptiveness into customer motivation and an established custom. Handing out your ebooks for free helps to build firm business relationships and keeps your customers coming back to your site.

Articles will help establish your credibility as an expert in your field and make your business a recognized commodity.

If you were to write about Internet Marketing, you would find a lot of articles about that subject. You must research them and find what is missing. You can commercialize anything on the Internet.

Try a book about how to market a business that trains Saint Bernards as search and rescue dogs? Or a book about marketing a business that grows organic vegetables and herbs.

Find out what you are passionate about and then turn it into ebooks! Ebooks are paths to individual satisfaction and financial rewards. They are reasonably easy to make and the cost is low. The ebook not only has the possibility to make money, but it may turn you into a famous person. At the same time your value goes up along with your earnings.

Similiar to a flower abundant with blooms, your ebook will move across the internet, dropping its seeds of wisdom. And those seeds will contain the fruit of new customers and chances for many years.
